ScotShot LLC - NRA Defensive Pistol.
This is a National Rifle Association accredited and certificated course.

THIS COURSE HAS PRE-REQUISITES
To enter this course you must have completed NRA Basic Pistol (old style or new style), NRA PPIH or PPOH, or ScotShot Handgun-II (preferably also Handgun-IV), or evidence of other suitable handgun training.

WHAT THIS COURSE IS FOR
NRA Defensive Pistol is designed to develop the Student's Knowledge, Skills and Attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence. It is the most advanced handgun class that the NRA offers to the general public. NRA Defensive Pistol is a one-day class that will provide insight and understanding of issues related to carrying a firearm outside your home. The focus is on protecting yourself and your family, and on safe gun handling under stress.

WHAT THIS COURSE CONTAINS
We start with an introduction to defensive shooting, including mindset and awareness, and the will to prevail. Then, we move to basic principles of concealment, and presenting and re-holstering a handgun. We consider the law and self defense, including potential legal and civil liability of a defensive encounter, and we discuss techniques for avoiding life-threatening confrontations. We explain the physiological and psychological changes that often occur during a violent confrontation. We cover advanced shooting techniques such as flash sight picture, point shooting, instinctive shooting and reloading under time stress. We demonstrate clearance of common stoppages and key "immediate action drills". On the range we will practice shooting from behind cover, presenting a pistol from concealment, moving off the attack line and shooting targets at varying distances, against time pressure. Finally, we will qualify for the Defensive Pistol Certificate by shooting a defined course of fire at varying distances, with reloading, from concealment. The course is taught in the classroom and on the firing range.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
This is an advanced-level course. You should have your own handgun (not .22) and be familiar with using it. You should bring a strong-side outside-the-waistband holster and a sturdy belt. Spare magazines (or speed loaders if using a revolver) and belt-worn holders are required. A cover garment is also required.. You should bring your handgun and 250 rounds of store-bought, factory-loaded ammunition. This class requires a positive mindset and a willingness to consider the various aspects of defensive firearm use. Please bring a light lunch. If there is someone else in your home who may also have to use a firearm defensively, then please consider having them register for the class with you.

WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY
We provide all training materials, the detailed NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home manual, classroom and range facilities, and coffee and snacks. At the end of the course, Certificates of Qualification are issued only to those who pass the qualifying course of fire. This can serve as "Proof of Training" for the popular Florida Concealed Weapons Permit application as well as others such as Arizona and Virginia. Most of all, you'll take away a great experience, and a clear insight into the challenges and responsibilities of working with a concealed handgun, and a true sense of confidence in your ability to carry concealed. .

Thank you for choosing ScotShot for your firearms training - see you on the range!
