ScotShot LLC - NRA Instructor-Led Basics of Pistol Shooting.
This is a National Rifle Association accredited and certificated course, and it runs over two days.
THIS COURSE HAS OPTIONAL CONTENT
NRA has created an excellent on-line module that covers many elements of handgun shooting. You do not have to take this online module to enter our Instructor-Led class or complete it successfully. However you may find it enriches the "NRA Instructor-Led Basics of Pistol Shooting" class. If you are an Instructor Candidate, this is particularly true. Please note that there is an additional fee for this online module, paid directly to the NRA. You can access this course, which is on the NRA website, here.
WHAT THIS COURSE IS FOR
This is the NRA's flagship Pistol Class. Its purpose is to develop a safety mindset, familiarity with handguns, and introduce basic elements of handgun marksmanship. Certificates will be mailed to successful participants. Instructor candidates need to pass the class at 90% or better.
WHAT THIS COURSE CONTAINS
The class starts from the very beginning and describes the parts and function of revolvers and semi-automatic handguns. It shows how ammunition works. We cover the fundamentals of shooting a handgun, as well as grip and stance, and continues with safe gun handling exercises, loading and unloading, the bench-rest and two-handed standing positions. On Day Two, after a range safety briefing, we shoot live ammunition with the objective of achieving a pre-determined accuracy standard. Students may advance their achievement through a total of four competency levels, which is reflected in their final certification.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
This is a beginner-level course, designed specifically for people who may never have handled a firearm before. It can be taken by adults and supervised older children (age 12 or over). The only other things you need to bring are a willingness to learn, a light lunch and desire to succeed. By arrangement, you may bring your own firearm to the class. If you do this then you should also bring 100 rounds of store-bought, factory-loaded ammunition (hand-loaded ammunition is expressly prohibited). However, we will provide everything that is required.
WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY
We provide all training materials, firearms, ammunition, and classroom and range facilities. At the end of the course, we issue a Certificate of Completion, a safety-orientated attitude to handgun use, and who achieve the minimum qualification standard. Most of all, you'll take away a great experience, a working knowledge of single-action double-action and semi-automatic handguns, and how to fire them safely at the range.
Thank you for choosing ScotShot for your firearms training - see you on the range!
