ABOUT THE SCOTSHOT HANDGUN COURSE
ScotShot Handgun I - IV © is a modularized Handgun course designed to take the student from novice to accomplished. We developed the ScotShot Handgun course to take people beyond traditional handgun safety courses and then we split it into four segments, so that people can progress in clearly defined steps that are challenging, but within the grasp of the average recreational shooter. You start at the beginning with Handgun I, then move through the various elements, ending with the safe use of a holster and carrying a firearm concealed. We prefer that you start with Handgun-I and move sequentially through, but you can slot in at different levels depending on experience, or take classes out of order. At the end of ScotShot Handgun, you will be a confident and competent handgun shooter, able to function in a variety of environments and situations, and possessing the skills necessary for more advanced training.
SCOTSHOT HANDGUN-I; PISTOL BASICS ©
ScotShot Handgun-I is the Foundation Level course. It is a 7 hr course that has 4 hrs of classroom time and 2 hrs of range time, with an hour for lunch and range safety briefing. The purpose of this Foundation class is to give new and returning shooters the ability to go to the range safely and confidently, knowing that they have a firm grasp of the basics of safe firearms handling.
WHAT THIS COURSE IS FOR
This class is suitable for complete beginners, experienced shooters, those who want a refresher with their new firearm, or experienced shooters who have been away from the sport for a while. Its purpose is to make people familiar with the rules for safe gun handling and storing, give familiarity with the parts and function of handguns and handgun ammunition, and give them confidence that they can go to the range safely, with their own gun.
WHAT THIS COURSE CONTAINS
We cover and review: firearm safety; the rules for safe gun handling; the safe direction; the parts and function of handguns; the parts and function of ammunition; the fundamentals of shooting a handgun; how to safely load and unload the handgun; how to safely hold a handgun correctly and present it to the target for firing, using a two-handed grip in a standing position. We work with double-action revolvers, and striker-fire and hammer-fire semi-automatic pistols, and you will shoot a variety of guns in a range of calibers in this course. We provide all necessary handguns and ammunition for this class at no extra charge. You may bring your own NJ-legal semi-automatic handgun, or revolver to the class, but in this case should also bring 50 rounds of store-bought ammunition.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
There is no pre-requisite for this class. This is a beginner-level course, suitable for people with no training or only a little. You can take this course in advance of obtaining your own pistol; in fact, it may help you decide on what you like and dislike. It can be taken by adults and supervised older children. The only things you need to bring are a willingness to learn, a desire to succeed, and a light lunch. If there is someone in your home who will be using your firearm in your presence and under your direct supervision, then please consider having them register for the class with you. If you choose to bring your own firearm, we will work with you on it, as appropriate.
WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY
We provide all training materials, firearms, ammunition, classroom and range facilities, coffee and snacks. At the end of the course, we issue a Certificate of Training to those who meet the necessary standard of safe attitude and safe gun handling. This can serve as "Proof of Training" for the popular Florida Concealed Weapons Permit application. Most of all, you'll take away a great experience, a working knowledge of handguns, handgun shooting in general, your shooting strengths and weaknesses, and important safety concepts.
Thank you for choosing ScotShot for your firearms training - see you on the range!
