WHAT THIS COURSE IS FOR
This course is designed to make it straightforward to apply for the out-of-state concealed carry permits from Florida and Arizona. This is accompanied by the USCCA Concealed Carry Fundamentals course, which will give you a clear appreciation of the various considerations surrounding a decision to carry a defensive firearm, where legally possible.
WHAT THIS COURSE CONTAINS
We begin by going over everything required to successfully complete your applications. The includes a line-by-line walk through of the applications, and fingerprinting. We then discuss the need to be aware of local laws and continue with a consideration of your personal defense plan, focusing on outside the home. The course also discusses conflict avoidance, situational awareness, cover and concealment, and how to develop exit strategies for a given situation. We consider where a permit to carry fits in the overall defensive situation.
We continue by reviewing safety considerations, selection of defensive firearms and ammunition, and develop concepts related to defensive, rather than recreational, shooting. We discuss unsighted fire and flash-sight picture, and how they complement traditional aimed fire. We discuss the legal aspects of defensive firearm use. We use scenarios to explore the mindset of how a Prosecutor might view a defensive shooting, and attempt to build a case against the defensive shooter. We discuss important considerations, such as CCW Insurance, how to call an attorney, how to make a police statement, and how to invoke your Right to Silence. The class concludes with a discussion of how to select holsters, belts, flashlights and lasers as your needs suggest.
On the firing range, we shoot at different distances and use this to explore the relationship between speed of firing and distance to target. We introduce single-handed firing, with either hand. Finally, we discuss violent encounters, and their aftermath, and how you might respond. The class will conclude with a review and question/answer session, with suggestions for future skill development.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
You should bring two photographs for the Florida application, and a valid NJ Driver's License. You should also bring note-taking material, and a light lunch. If you have a defensive firearm, you should bring it too, but not a holster. Bring 100 rounds of store-bought, factory-loaded ammunition. If you do not have a defensive firearm, firearms are available to rent at the range. Most importantly, you should bring a positive safety-orientated attitude.
